Watering of plants seem to be such an easy practice. We neglect the “when” and “how” to water plants.
Fig trees belong to the drier climate. They can be planted in many different places, but care need to be taken as not to let it be over-watered. In the case of tropical climate like Malaysia, we have to ensure that it is protected from the ample rain that we have.
At Figara11, fig trees are housed in rain-proof houses. This will ensure trees are protected from excess water. The humid weather brings also more fungal issue, and this usually leads to the leaf rust, a fungal attack on the leaves if there is constant water residue on the leaves.
Thus, when watering, take note:
- Water the plant at ground level, avoid spraying water all over the tree
- Water only when the sun is not the hottest, best to be in the morning or evening when it is less hot
- Water only when needed, ie when the leaves droop. Frequency can be once a day, or once every 2 days. Observe both the leaves and the soil surface
